One day, as Dana looked at our daughter Mila, she asked, “Mila, how did you get so beautiful?” Without hesitation, Mila answered, “That’s how God made me.” In that simple, childlike response, Mila spoke a profound truth. The world often distorts the concept of beauty, associating it with outward appearance, fleeting trends, and societal approval. But God’s Word reminds us that true beauty begins with Him. He is the Creator who made each of us with intention and care, and real beauty reflects His handiwork and presence in our lives.
As parents raising daughters, it can be challenging to shield them from society’s false definitions of worth and appearance. Yet when their identity is rooted in Christ, they can confidently say without hesitation, “God made me this way.” That response reflects an intimate relationship with the Father who designed them uniquely, wonderfully, and for His glory.
Mila’s answer wasn’t just cute—it was theology in its purest form. It is a reminder for us all: when we understand our value comes from God, there is no insecurity, no striving, no comparison only gratitude.
Scriptures (NKJV):
- “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” —Psalm 139:14
- “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment… rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.” —1 Peter 3:3–4
- “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” —Genesis 1:27
- “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” —Ephesians 2:10
Reflection/Prayer:
Lord, thank You for reminding me through Mila’s words that beauty comes from You. Help my daughters and me never to measure our worth by the world’s standards, but to see ourselves through Your eyes. May their hearts be rooted in Christ, confident in how You made them, and radiant with Your beauty that never fades. Amen.
So I ask, where does your value come from?
Frank D.
